I jump out of bed and run up the stairs to the kitchen and sure enough, the pan I put on the stove full of beans is smoking like crazy! There was so much smoke I could hardly see. I put the beans on to boil for 2 minutes before I went to bed and then I was going to let them soak all night for bean soup. I forgot all about them after I put them on.
So we got the stove turned off and beans taken outside. The house is filled with smoke so we opened all the windows and put fans by them to let the house air out.

GROSS! These started out as white beans. We are fine, Connor is the only kid that even woke up. We all smell like chain smokers and we are slowly getting the house cleaned up. It really really stinks.
Why didn't the smoke detectors go off? Well, ha ha funny story. When we moved into this house last summer we took the battery out of an ancient detector hanging in the hall, it was beeping and not working anymore. We kept meaning to get a new one and one for the basement but just never did.
Guess what Chris bought today after he dropped us off at school.
Lesson learned. oh and Connor is my hero!!!!!!!!

Oh my goodness! That's crazy. Glad everybody's OK.
So scary. But I love that you all smell like chain smokers.
Wow! That's REALLY scary. I'm glad that the only damage was the beans. Hopefully your house will smell beautiful again soon.
Holy Cow! I think we should give Connor an award!
I tried to cook beans right after my son was born, of course, I fell asleep and the same story... smoke, ruined pan and that horrible horrible burnt bean smell!
