Family Fun Day

We got invited to my good friend, April, son's Bday at the South Davis Recreation center. We ended up swimming for 2 1/2 hours. A new family record! We had tons of fun and I don't think Connor even swam after he discovered the fun-ness that is the water slide. I wish I would have brought the camera to take some pictures. It's really a fun pool, with the huge waterslide, a lazy river and a fun playground right in the pool.

Now we are all tired and hungry, but it was really fun for all of us.

Rolling eggs..... what it's all about

Every Easter, from the time that I can remember, we have had a tradition of rolling Easter Eggs. I thought it was something everybody did because everyone I knew did it.



NOT SO.



When I went to Snow College, I learned differently. When I told my roommates what I had planned for the weekend, they were puzzled. "why would you roll perfectly good Easter eggs down a hill?"



Why not, what else do you do with dozens of hard boiled eggs?



I'm not exactly sure where the tradition started. I don't really know how or why people do this. But..... it's really fun!



Usually we boil and color the eggs on Friday night. The Easter Bunny comes on Friday too. We get up on Saturday morning and get our baskets and then get ready for the big Picnic (yes that is Picnic with a capital p). My dad cooks the best dutch oven chicken and my mom prepares a killer easter egg hunt. We almost always go to the same place, in fact we refer to it as the "Eastering Place". It's in the clay hills above Glenwood. We eat, have the egg hunt (usually more candy and treats than Halloween-yummy!) and then we roll our eggs.

We climb up the hill, each child with their own carton or two of eggs and start throwing. It's fun to watch them fall apart as they hit the rocks and bushes. More often than not, the eggs don't break so you get to gather them and roll them again.



Usually the day ends with holes in the bums of pants from scooting down the hills, shoes full of dirt, a pile of pretty rocks, and a sunburn. But it is so worth it to enjoy the day with family having fun in the mountains and eating lots of good food.

Then we came home, back to the boringness of regular life, but it helps to have the fun stuff of Easter done on Saturday so we can remember the real reason why we celebrate Easter on Sunday. Don't the kids look great in their new Easter finery? Anna even let me curl her hair and has decided it's something we should do more often.

There is no cure for autism. There is a "Walk for Autism" on May 3, 2008. Our school is registered. The money we raise for the walk will be used for autism research. Please help so we can get this cured! This link takes you to our team, if you can donate (or join our team) that would be great!

If you know me at all......

If you know me at all, you know that I always have to have a project going on.  Right now I'm working on one that I am really excited about.  Our school is having a silent auction to raise money.  Our school is funded by the state of Utah, but since we have fewer students and more teachers we don't have a lot of money to do the things we need.  So each class is putting together gift baskets to auction off.  Anyway, for the Kindergarten class, I am making a quilt!

 I had each student draw a picture and sign their name. (the giraffe one was drawn by Anna, our mascot is the giraffe)


Then I traced their picture onto some muslin fabric and stitched it with embroidery floss in the same colors they used in the picture.


When I get finished, the picture will be put together on the quilt along with rainbow color patchwork.  It will be so cool!  I'm so excited.  I hope someone else likes it too and buys it and gives lots of money to the school!

New York!

Chris left late last night for a job in New York City. He should be there soon. He's staying right at Times Square. He will be back early Saturday morning. Pretty cool.

I love daylight savings time! I'm having a hard time going to bed on time though. makes it hard to get up in the morning. But it's so nice for the kids to be able to play outside after dinner. I feel like I have more energy too.

I'm working on a super cool project for a silent auction at school. I'll take some pictures later and talk more about it.

One of my very best friends

Chris gave me this beauty for our 13th wedding anniversary. I have wanted one since FOR-EV-ER. I use it a lot. I really like to bake. Today I made some yummies. Cinnamon rolls with Cream Cheese frosting and a loaf of bread.

Whatever you do, don't be jealous of my fancy wall paper and funky countertops. This house was built in 1947 and the kitchen has not been updated. Of course, that means no dishwasher besides the slave labor of the kids.

Hopefully that will work as this is the very first time I've even done it. Cross your fingers that I win. I love contests! I would even use a cute apron. I always make messes when I cook. I can't even wash the dishes without getting my clothes soaking wet. Yeah, you can call me Grace

Crazy Hair Day

We are celebrating Dr. Suess's birthday this week at school. We've had backwards day, mismatch day, and today was crazy hair day. Connor wanted little ponytails all over his head. So we put some in last night before bed so we wouldn't have to get up early today. Well, he couldn't sleep so we took them out and had to do them this morning anyway. He looked so great! It was fun to see all the interesting do's today. Tomorrow is funny hat day, and Friday is green eggs and ham day and we are supposed to wear green and white clothes.

Cousins! Cousins!

Today we got to have some cousins over to play. My brother Ramsey and his wife Angie had to take their almost 2 week old daughter to Primary Children's Hospital to have some tests done. She is having trouble breathing and they can't really figure out why. She's on oxygen and also a monitor. Right now they are saying she'll probably just grow out of it, that maybe her lungs just aren't completely developed.

Anyway, while they were at the hospital their other kids got to play at our house. It was so much fun for Connor and Anna to play with Anthony and Alexandra, and I got to enjoy the sweetness of a 2 almost 3 year old Abbie. She's a sweetheart and has a lot to tell me. The family stayed for dinner and a nice visit.

I'm really slacking on the picture taking. I'll work on that and try harder. Maybe I can post a pic of Connor's hair for crazy hair day at school.
